The project consists of 3 apartment buildings, anchored by a beacon 39 storey landmark tower, rising 126m in the centre of Birmingham. The fast-track programme demanded 6 working day cycles from floor-to-floor and was achieved using precast columns, post-tensioned slabs and a jump-form system for the cores. The columns were cast in-house at Gallagher’s depot in Rugby giving complete control for just-in-time deliveries. In achieving the programme, over 20,000m3 of concrete was cast in a year.

The project is a large new hospital in the Smethwick district of Birmingham. The fast-track programme was achieved by jumping the cores ahead of the post-tensioned slabs. At the peak, for a six-month period, Gallagher had 250 operatives on site and cast 1,200m3 of concrete on average per week. The total slab area of hospital is 130,000m2 on 10 floors and with a total of 45,000m3 of concrete.
